'For the Nanny not the few'.
A poem by Stephen Harrison, Edinburgh, 10th February 2019
Oh for the Nanny not the few
Dearest Nanny we do indeed love you
You brought us up so good and so proper
Not like the wicked who are few
Nanny says we must all be equal
Nanny says it must all be fair
Nanny you're so unequivocal
Nanny we do so love you
What would we do without Nanny?
How could we tell right from wrong?
Of such things we are naturally ignorant
Dear Nanny only you know what's true
Nanny gives us equal opportunity
Nanny your wealth is in Love
How on earth do you do it dear Nanny?
Why are there so few just like you?
Nanny so strict and incorruptible
So clever with money, so shrewd
Nanny you know best what is good for us
No one can be as honest as you
Few can be Nanny not just anyone
In fact less than a few only you
And if there is only just one who can be you
It proves you are not one of the few
Such joy we all have being obedient
Nanny knows best - Yes she does!
And if someone should dare to be revolutionary
Just Nanny will know what to do
For Nanny is not like the many
She can see through the few even when there's many
She will isolate and starve out these dissidents
Till they crawl back to Nanny and the many
Singing "We are the many who love Nanny
We never wanted to be like the few
We love you and trust you dear Nanny
We're for the Nanny not the few."
